HiPath
MobileConnect
Breaking the Paradox: Enterprise Fixed-Mobile Convergence
Businesses are under increasing pressure to improve the availability,
productivity, and overall competitiveness of their mobile workers. HiPath
MobileConnect extends enterprise telephony features to users, both on and
off the enterprise premise. HiPath MobileConnect works in conjunction with
the corporate SIP infrastructure and the wireless LAN (WLAN) to enable communications
over dual-mode handsets on both the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) and the
public mobile network. Users benefit from true one-number service and transparent
roaming between networks which improves employee productivity and reachabilty.
IT managers benefit from greater control over mobile phones and communication
costs.
HiPath MobileConnect
HiPath MobileConnect supports increasing employee mobility conveniently
and at least-possible-cost. Specific business problems the solution addresses
include:
High Communications Costs:
High mobile network usage,
roaming, and long distance charges stem from workers’ reliance on
their cell phones, even when they are on the corporate premises.
Productivity: Productivity and customer service are impacted by missed calls,
having to check multiple voicemail systems, and searching for contact numbers.
Feature Access:
When off-campus mobile
workers often lack the enterprise telephony features available at the corporate
site, which impacts productivity.
Business Execution:
Disrupted calls or poor
coverage when moving between networks negatively impacts the execution of
business.
Disparate Networks:
Today’s cellular
mobility solutions are deployed and managed independently of the enterprise
communications infrastructure, making solution management more complex and
inefficient.
HiPath MobileConnect
Enterprise Fixed-Mobile Convergence
HiPath MobileConnect is the industry’s most comprehensive extension
of enterprise communications into the mobile network, resulting in unmatched
productivity enhancements and communications cost savings. Key customer
benefits include:
Reduced Communications Costs: Use of the low-cost or “free”
corporate WLAN network to place or receive calls whenever users are within
range, reduces costly mobile network fees.
Increased Productivity: Human latency is reduced by providing
users with a single number and voice mailbox that can be easily accessed
both on the corporate WLAN and the mobile network. No more missed calls
or checking multiple voice mailboxes!
Consistent Feature Access: A consistent telephony user
interface that delivers all key enterprise calling features ensures that
users are just as productive on the mobile network as they are at their
desks.
Improved Business Execution: Employees can carry on conversations
uninterrupted even as they move between the corporate WLAN and the mobile
network.
Single Network Management: IT departments manage only a
single mobile communications device and PBX entry for each user.
HiPath MobileConnect
The HiPath MobileConnect solution consists of the centrally-located MobileConnect
Appliance and the HiPath MobileConnect Client, which resides on dual-mode
mobile devices.
HiPath MobileConnect Appliance:
The MobileConnect Appliance resides on the central corporate network
next to the SIP PBX. When a dual-mode device running HiPath MobileConnect
Client software appears on the corporate WLAN, it automatically registers
with the MobileConnect Appliance, which in turn registers the user as a SIP
client on the corporate PBX. At this point, all calls made to or from the
mobile user’s device are routed through the PBX as SIP calls using the
WLAN infrastructure.
HiPath MobileConnect Client:
The MobileConnect Client is installed on a compatible dual-mode mobile
device, and communicates with the MobileConnect Appliance to negotiate a seamless
transition to or from the public mobile network.
Transparent Roaming:
If the user is engaged in a call while roaming from the corporate
network, the MobileConnect Appliance initiates a cellular call to the user
device, and the call is transparently transferred from the corporate to the
public mobile network, which prevents inconvenient call disruptions. Similarly,
if the user is roaming into the corporate network, the MobileConnect Appliance
initiates a VoIP call to the user device and performs the transparent transfer.
One Number Functionality:
When a mobile user is on the mobile public network, the MobileConnect
Appliance recognizes that the user is not local and thus automatically forwards
incoming calls through the PBX out to the public network. In this way, callers
need only to dial the mobile user’s corporate PBX number to reach them
at any time.
Feature Access:
HiPath MobileConnect controls all call sessions to and from the HiPath MobileConnect
Client whether the user is on the corporate or the cellular network. This
means that users benefit from needing only a single telephone number, voice
mailbox, and user directory. Furthermore, HiPath MobileConnect extends PBX
features to users regardless if they are on the enterprise WLAN or the public
network, making it possible to engage in conference calls or to use internal
PBX extension dialing at all times.
