Midland TML - Surfwise Broadband Settings


Username

Your Broadband username, which you should use when connecting to the Internet is similar to the following format:

Important Note:

Your Surfwise Broadband username (for use in your router) must contain @surfwise.net (not @surfwise.co.uk).
firstname.lastname@surfwise.net

(Your email address will use @surfwise.co.uk)

'firstname.lastname' will be supplied to you in your welcome pack.

Password

Your password will be supplied to you in your welcome pack.

Advanced settings

These setting are only required if you use a computer running a non-Windows operating system, or you are setting up a Router to share your Internet connection.

IP address

Your IP address is allocated dynamically via DHCP - you do not need to set this.

DNS

Domain name service is dynamic - but if domain name server (DNS) addresses are required, you should use the following:

194.72.0.98
194.74.65.68

Router settings

If you choose to use an Ethernet modem / router, the correct connection settings are:

Encapsulation: PPP over ATM
Multiplexing Method: VC-Based
Virtual Circuit: VPI=0 VCI=38
 
Outlook Email Settings 

Outlook 2002/XP & 2003 - Setting up the Default E-mail Address (for Outlook Express please see further down)

The below provides instructions for configuring Outlook 2002/XP to send and receive e-mail using your default (your.name@surfwise.co.uk) e-mail address.

Configuring Outlook 2002/XP& 2003:

Begin by opening Outlook.



Once Outlook is open click on Tools and then Accounts.



Select Add a new e-mail account and then click Next.



Select POP3 and then click Next.



On this screen enter the following:

Your Name: Enter your name, or the name you wish to use for this e-mail account.
E-mail Address: Enter your Surfwise e-mail address, as provided in your Technical Details e-mail.
User Name: This should be the username provided in your Technical Details e-mail, without the @surfwise portion. This is case-sensitive.
Password: This should be the password provided in your Technical Details e-mail.  This is case-sensitive.
Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.surfwise.co.uk
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail. surfwise.co.uk

Once this information is entered click Next.



Outlook is now configured to collect your e-mail.  Click Finish to finalise the settings.
 
Outlook Express Email Settings 

Username

Your Email username, which you should use when setting up your email client (EG Outlook Express) is in the following format:

Important Note:

Your email address and email client username is different to your Surfwise Broadband username
IE it will end in @sufwise.co.uk (NOT surfwise.net)

'firstname.lastname' will be supplied to you in your welcome pack.

Email address

Your email address will be similar to the following format:

'firstname.lastname' will be supplied to you in your welcome pack.

Server settings

The address of the Surfwise POP mail server is: mail.surfwise.co.uk
The address of the Surfwise SMTP mail server is: mail.surfwise.co.uk

Typical settings for Microsoft Outlook Express as follows:


Note: Do not use Secure Password Authentication to access your surfwise.co.uk emails

Access your email online http://webmail.surfwise.co.uk

Email Issues for New Users.

Most new users will still want to collect (pop3) email from their old ADSL service.  This is not a problem, but they need to make some basic changes to their email client to be able to send (SMTP) email via surfwises servers.

Outlook Express:

Click on Tools -> Accounts -> Mail Tab.

Click on their existing email account and click properties.

Click on the servers tab:



Put a tick in "My Server requires authentication"

Click on settings ...


 
Fill in the information as above.
Click ok as many times as is needed.

Outlook XP/2003

Click on Tools and then Accounts
Click on View or change existing email accounts
Click next
Select the account in question and click change:



It should now look similar to this.   The email address  should be changed so it reflects the surfwise account email address.

Click on more settings.



And fill in the details as above.
